Delivery Day Unboxing

It’s always exciting when a box of wonderful shiny new art supplies arrive!  Today I’m going to share with you the order I received yesterday.   Before I dive into my new goodies, I have to take a moment to mention how well everything was packed in the box.  I don’t think one thing even moved in that box!  So far I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Dick Blick online’s shipping.   Alright, let’s take a peek at what I found inside this wonderful box of joy! First, you can probably see the two cans in the above photo.  I needed more fixatives for my graphite work.  I have to say they are my favorites for graphite! I also needed to order various Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils for an upcoming commission.  Included with my selection of pencils is also a replacement Staedtler Mars Lumograph 9H graphite pencil I needed.   As much fun as it is to get things you need, it’s even better when you’re able to get things you have been anticipating trying! With much delight and excitement I FINALLY got my hands on Strathmore’s new 400 Series Toned Tan and Toned Gray Mixed Media paper! I absolutely adore my Strathmore 400 Toned Tan Sketch paper, but it doesn’t take as many layers of colored pencil as I want.  When I saw Strathmore announce their new Mixed Media Papers in Toned Tan and Toned Gray, I did a serious happy dance!  I’ve been waiting until I could finally order some to try out.   When I opened them up to take a peek, I was thrilled!  A vellum surface and 184lb (300gsm) paper in the beautiful tones with small fibers throughout.  It’s a nice, thick, sturdy surface that I look forward to testing out!  I already have two colored pencil pieces in mind, one for each color.  Fingers crossed this new paper will stand up to multiple layers and OMS blending!   Last but not least, there’s one final thing that was in a box inside the main box.  I was very pleased by how it was packed for shipping because of how fragile they can be.  I plan to do a review of these in the near future as well. I never thought I would make this purchase, as I love my polychromos.  However, when you can purchase a 150 set of artist grade colored pencils for only $57.49 ( a massive price reduction sale) I couldn’t pass it up! Yes my friends, I decided to dive in and try Prismacolor Premier Soft Core colored pencils!
Full 150 Set of Prismacolor Premier Soft Core colored pencils.
I have already made my swatches and taken notes about the pencils.  I won’t say right now what I’ve found, I’ll save that for the review. 😉 All in all it was a fun day getting some needed and some new supplies! (Did I mention I have another box coming this week?) Until Next Time, Keep Creating!
